I am totally in the minority here

…but I kind of want iCarly to end. Not because I want no more new episodes, or because I hate the plot or anything like that. It’s actually the very opposite, I love the show so much and I love the characters so much that I feel like its naturally run its course. Sam and Carly and Freddie are so perfect in my head, that I want things for them. And college is one of them. I want them to separate themselves from their families (and from each other, really) and grow as people. I want them to go to parties and sneak into bars and sleep through classes and learn to live on their own. If the show were to keep running, they wouldn’t be able to do that.

As for Jennette’s new show, I want a show about a normal girl. Not an internet celebrity, not one at a performing arts high school, not some battle of the bands type show or four friends becoming a boyband. What Nickelodeon is lacking is someone who is just freaking NORMAL. And it’s not exactly fair to Jennette because girlfriend is uber talented, but I would love her to just…deal with every day problems. Be the kind of girl I was in high school. Join the school newspaper, maybe a sports team. Get in fights with her friends and have rivalries with teachers. Try to figure out what the fuck she wants to major in in college and maybe work an after school job she absolutely hates. I want her to have crushes on boys and get stood up once, maybe, and maybe once do the standing up. I want to be able to see myself as I was at sixteen or seventeen or however young/old they will make her on the show. I never see myself in Nickelodeon characters, not really.

I think Jennette is sweet and charming and people can relate to her. She has that working for her. I really want to see Nick capitalize on her.

…and I wouldn’t mind if Nathan Kress was on the show too because, y’know, seddie even when it isn’t seddie.

I kind of want it to end too. I’ll be sad to see it go, but the show has run it’s course. They’re basically seniors in high school. Beyond the sort of high school rites of passage (a la graduation, prom, college stress, etc), there’s not much else Nick can do with the show and it’s characters. (I mean, it’s not like Nick can send the kids to college…lol) It’s been fun watching them grow up and watching their stories unfold. It’s been especially great watching Sam and Freddie’s relationship grow from a sort of juvenille bickering to well…love.

But, it’s got to end eventually. Sooner is better than later.

Also, as for Jennette’s show, I really do think it’ll probably have to do with music. I know there was that article a while ago that mentioned she’d be doing more pop oriented music in the future and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had to do with her show. I HOPE I’m wrong, but it seems children’s networks are sort of scared to go the music-less/fame-less route. Personally, I feel like it would have been nice to see Jennette move away from Nick. Her early performances on all those law/crime shows were really great so it’d be neat to see her back in something a little more serious…maybe even a little grown up, but I’m still happy for her regardless.

She’s very talented and she deserves this. I hope everything works out with it.

It’s a money thing. With music-themed shows, they can sell soundtracks and live performances and music videos. Triple threats are cash cows.

Also, re: the crime shows. Jennette is so amazingly talented. She is such a fabulous actress, in regards to drama AND comedy. I agree: she’s doing herself a disservice staying with Nickelodeon. But if she is staying, I definitely want her to be the star.
